Richmond Hill releases latest updates on City Plan 2041
Aug. 12, 2021

The City of Richmond Hill is updating the current Official Plan to guide land use and development to 2041. This update will continue to help transform the suburban communities into a more vibrant, complete community that serves the needs of all residents, businesses and visitors in Richmond Hill.

Throughout last spring, the City Plan 2041 team held a number of workshops, surveys, and engagement events as part of Phase 2 of the Official Plan Update project. LURA Consulting has prepared two What We Heard reports which summarizes the feedback that was received during engagement opportunities. The first is focused on the feedback from the business community, while the second is related to emerging centres.

David Dixon, visionary urbanist, and Stantec's Urban Places have prepared a Planning for Change report. This report will act as a "playbook" and will inform the Official Plan Update, provide guidance to city council and planning staff to successfully implement the Official Plan, and adds additional perspective in terms of a path to take for planning complete communities.

All three of these reports are available on the Official Plan Update webpage, located under the "Phase 2" drop-down.

As Phase 2 of the Official Plan Update project progresses, the next step will be preparing a Key Directions Report. This report will identify areas of the Official Plan that require change, and identify direction for that change. There will be an Official Plan Update Committee meeting on Sept. 21. Following this meeting, the city plans on holding more consultation events in the fall, the details of which will be announced soon.
