Metrolinx hosts virtual Q&A for Thornhill residents to address concerns on Yonge North Subway

Metrolinx is holding its first virtual open house this week for Thornhill’s Royal Orchard community regarding the Yonge North Subway Extension.

The preferred business case for the project released March 18 revealed a revised route that swings east, close to Royal Orchard Boulevard, before travelling northeast below homes through the neighbourhood until it connects with the existing CN Railway/GO Train corridor at a point just beyond St. Anthony Catholic Elementary School where it continues underground north to Langstaff Road in Richmond Hill.

Concerned about the potential impact to the neighbourhood, Markham Ward 1 Coun. Keith Irish started a petition against any alignment that does not adhere to Yonge Street.

He also voiced a number concerns with the current plan being floated by Metrolinx's panel of experts.

The online meeting scheduled for April 7 will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will include a brief presentation from Metrolinx's project team, followed by a question-and-answer session.

The virtual platform will allow residents to vote on the questions they’d most like answered, with the order of responses being based on total votes.
