If you know a local accomplished person who you feel is worthy of the honour, you can nominate him or her for the Order of Vaughan until June 15.

The Order of Vaughan is the highest civic honour bestowed by the city and honours individuals who have “had a significant impact on the community.”

In order to be eligible to be a member of the Order of Vaughan, a person must be a resident or former resident of Vaughan.

Now in its third year, the Order of Vaughan saw 25 members inducted in its inaugural year and a further 10 nominees inducted last year.

It recognizes individuals who have made a contribution in one or more of the following categories: arts and entertainment, media and communications, athletics, health and wellness, business, philanthropy, public service, education, science and technology, not-for-profit, equity and diversity, accessibility, environment and spirituality.

You can get a nomination form online or at city hall, a Vaughan community centre or a public library. You need to provide supporting documents with your nomination that speak to the character of the nominee and his or her accomplishment. Those who are city employees, elected officials or public appointees at the federal, provincial or municipal level are not eligible.
