Stouffville gets ready to turn out the lights for Earth Hour

The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville will join municipalities around the world on Saturday, March 24 to power down for Earth Hour 2018 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

During Earth Hour, the town will reduce its electricity consumption by turning off all non-essential lights at the municipal offices as well as at all town facilities, maintaining those needed for programs and public safety.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to take part in this initiative by powering down for Earth Hour. Take a walk, stargaze or play a game by candlelight with friends and family. Think about what else can be done year-round to reduce your carbon footprint such as taking transit, unplugging unused electrical appliances and washing your clothes in cold water.

Earth Hour asks individuals, businesses and governments worldwide to power down and/or conserve energy for one hour in an effort to raise awareness of the importance of conservation and climate change.

Earth Hour is a worldwide grassroots movement that promotes a greener, cleaner environment. The annual event has grown to be a global phenomenon supported by the World Wildlife Fund.
