All aboard York Region's most popular bus routes

York Region Transit routes divided into VIVA, base, local routes

York Region Transit buses are all across the region, helping commuters with a variety of routes.

There are more than 100 bus routes serving residents in all of York Region’s municipalities combined.

Some of those routes see heavy use, with thousands of average weekday boardings.

Here are the region’s top five bus routes by number of riders.

Yonge Street corridor (VIVA Blue/Blue A)

The VIVA route Blue/Blue A covers the Yonge Street Corridor from Finch Avenue in Toronto to Newmarket, running northbound and southbound. There are 18,578 boardings on an average weekday. As YRT’s most-used bus route, there are several buses in the fleet reserved for VIVA blue.

Hwy. 7 corridor (VIVA Purple)

VIVA Purple covers the east and west route along Hwy. 7 between York University and Markham Stouffville Hospital. This route sees 9,205 boardings on an average weekday and uses many buses from YRT’s fleet.

Hwy. 7 (77/77A)

Like VIVA Purple, the 77 covers Hwy. 7, but this route includes more frequent stops. It has 5,244 boardings on an average weekday. The full route is between Vaughan Valley Boulevard and the Finch GO bus terminal. The 77 also enters streets connected to Hwy. 7, including Yonge and Centre streets and Clark Avenue.

Bathurst Street (88)

Route 88 connects Seneca College’s King Campus to the Finch GO bus terminal in Toronto. It travels northbound and southbound along Bathurst through Vaughan and King. Its has 4,895 average weekday boardingsĀ  and makes several stops in Toronto.

Jane Street (20)

Route 20 connects Black Creek Pioneer Village and York University with Vaughan Mills. Running northbound and southbound, this route sees 4,346 boardings on average per weekday. It’s one of Vaughan’s most popular bus routes.
