Three York Region secondary schools have ranked in the top 10 of the Fraser Institute’s annual report card on Ontario secondary schools.
Thornhill’s St. Robert Catholic High School ranked second with a rating of 9.2 out of 10, Richmond Hill’s St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School ranked fourth with a rating of 9.1 and Richmond Hill’s Bayview Secondary School ranked ninth with a rating of 9. The report card ranks 747 Ontario schools in total.
The remaining York Region and York Catholic district school boards have scattered rankings down to the 692nd spot.
The organization’s annual report card collects indicators of school performance and ranks them into one public document.
Both York Region boards have previously stated they do not support the ranking of schools because these results only account for a portion of indicators needed to fully access a school’s performance.
Unlike last year’s report card on the province’s secondary schools that indicated a downward trend in both academic and applied mathematics streams, this year it seems some secondary schools success rates are on the rise when it comes to standardized testing.
This year, 37 high schools have shown significant improvement over the last four years in Grade 9 academic math and 47 schools have improved in applied math.
