A brief thaw
The Weather Network reports in their long term forecast that temperatures are set to return to single digit numbers this coming week — but still below zero. That's better than the first week of January, which saw temperatures hit -40 C with wind chill. Winter's still got plenty of time left, so don't put those scarves and gloves away.
The good ol' hockey game
Newmarket hosts 76 teams from minor atom to minor midget age groups in the International Silver Stick hockey tournament from Jan. 11 to 14.
Teen wellness
The Canadian Mental Health Association hosts a teens and mental health wellness workshop at the Stouffville United Church on Jan. 9. Learn about mental health challenges for teens and discover why teens may appear stressed, anxious or depressed.
Minimum wage, maximum impact
A discussion on the provincial Bill 148 (Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017) will be held at the Aaniin Community Centre and Library in Markham on Jan. 11 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. about the impact the provincial minimum wage increase will have on employees, work culture, sales, and profit.
Dashing through the snow
King City's winter exhibit Dashing Through the Snow opens Jan. 8 and runs until Feb. 23. It features various artifacts from King's snowy past. The exhibit will be held at the King Heritage and Cultural Centre.
