In October and November, Mackenzie Health clinicians showcased to our community how key patient rooms are being designed for the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. More than 450 people, including residents of Vaughan, Richmond Hill, King and Newmarket, as well as hospital staff, physicians and volunteers were able to experience “built to scale” patient rooms designed with input from patients, families and clinicians. These rooms have also been used to test real patient care scenarios to confirm how the spaces and room designs will support a world-class health experience at the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.
Visitors were able to touch and feel the space, and ask questions about how care will be improved in the spaces. Rooms included an emergency examination room, a critical care room, an operating suite, an inpatient mental health room, a new labour/birthing/recovery and postpartum room, and a medical/surgical room. Thoughtfully designed, each room features large windows, patient and care provider safety features and design elements to provide care providers with the tools they need to efficiently care for patients.
Now under construction at Major Mackenzie Dr. and Jane St. in Vaughan, Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will open in 2020 and provide 350 care patient beds for our community, with the ability to increase capacity to 550 beds when needed in the future. Together, as part of Mackenzie Health's two-site hospital model, Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will provide increased access to state-of-the-art health care closer to home for residents of York Region.
