Bus Rapid Transit Segment Opening in Vaughan

On December 11th, the Honourable Steven Del Duca, Minister of Transportation, Phil Verster, President and CEO of Metrolinx, Wayne Emmerson, Chairman and CEO of The Regional Municipality of York, Maurizio Bevilacqua, Mayor of the City of Vaughan, and Frank Scarpitti, Mayor of the City of Markham and Chairman of the York Region Rapid Transit Board, joined together to celebrate the transformation of Vaughan, with the official opening of another bus rapid transit (BRT) rapidway segment on Highway 7 West. On December 17th, the new Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station opened as part of the rapidway segment from Bowes Road to Edgeley Boulevard, coinciding with the opening of the Line 1 subway extension. Located west of Jane Street at Millway Avenue, passengers are able to connect directly from this rapidway station to the TTC subway and the adjacent SmartCentres Place Bus Terminal, which opened in 2018.
