Two York Region MPPs have new gigs resulting from a cabinet shuffle to replace three veteran Liberal ministers who’ve announced they won’t be seeking re-election in June.

Vaughan MPP Steven Del Duca is handing over the keys to a new transportation minister -- Cambridge MPP Kathryn McGarry -- and is sliding into the driver's seat at economic development, which is being vacated by Scarborough-Centre MPP Brad Duguid.

Del Duca was first elected in 2012 and has served as transportation minister since June 2014.

He was in the spotlight this summer after a Toronto Star investigation revealed that he pressured Metrolinx leadership to approve a new $100-million GO Transit station in Vaughan.

Dr. Helena Jaczek nominated to run for Liberals in Markham-Stouffville

The departure of Deb Matthews -- who served as deputy premier, cabinet chair and minister of advanced education and skills development -- has touched off a couple of moves.

Community and Social Services Minister Helena Jaczek, who represents Oak Ridges-Markham, assumes Matthews’ responsibilities as chair of cabinet, while Mitzie Hunter, MPP for Scarborough-Guildwood, is moving from education minister to minister of advanced education and skills development

Halton MPP Indira Naidoo-Harris has been promoted to education minister as well as continuing as minister for early years and child care.

Along with Duguid and Matthews, longtime Guelph MPP Liz Sandals, who served as president of the treasury board, is also retiring.

Burlington MPP Eleanor McMahon is Sandals’ successor at the treasury board.
