A fire at a tattoo shop in Vaughan on Jan. 14 is being investigated as a suspected arson.
An occupant of a unit at a plaza at 200 Marycroft Avenue, in the area of Hwy. 7 east of Pine Valley Drive, reported an odor at about 9:40 a.m., deputy fire chief Deryn Rizzi said.
When emergency crews arrived, they discovered there had been a fire at Addicted Tattoos and Piercing, with water from the sprinkler system flowing out of the shop.
The shop is believed to have sustained significant damage.
“It’s suspicious in nature. York Regional Police will be the lead on (the investigation),” Rizzi said.
“We called in the Ontario Fire Marshal, as per protocol when it’s a suspected arson. They also get involved in the investigation. Right now, York Regional Police are just getting a warrant.”
The person who reported the incident said “the front door, it looked like it had been blown out but there was no fire at the time when we arrived,” York Regional Duty Insp. Ryan Hogan said.
“It’s pretty preliminary at this point. All I can say is there’s a possible arson under investigation.”
According to Addicted Tattoo’s website, the business specializes in 100 per cent custom tattoos and has been in operation since 2010.
