Urban design is about how people connect with places, shaping the way public areas are experienced and used. It draws together many elements to create beautiful and sustainable spaces. As one of the fastest-growing cities, it is important to recognize the role urban design plays in establishing our city. It makes a significant difference in city-building, positioning Vaughan as an attractive and thriving place to live, work and play.

Five projects were presented with Urban Design Awards on Nov. 15. These include:

Award of Excellence -- Vaughan Civic Centre Resource Library
Award of Excellence -- KMPG Tower
Award of Merit --  Highway 7 West Rapidway/VivaNext
Award of Merit -- Minto Water Garden
Award of Merit --Woodbridge Fairground Lofts

Since 1992, the Urban Design Awards have recognized projects that exemplify excellence and innovation in urban design. The event celebrates visionary thinking and the best of the City's development in the areas of urban design, architecture, landscape architecture and environmental stewardship.
