Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, Members of Council school officials and students at toy drive launch
Families in need this holiday season will be getting a big hand from Vaughan, as the fifth annual toy drive in support of the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish kicked off yesterday. Students and staff from St. Agnes of Assisi and Guardian Angels Catholic Elementary Schools joined Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua to officially launch the toy drive.
Santa Claus even made a visit to the school to show his support for the toy drive, along with teachers and parents. In addition to toy donations, the event also featured holiday displays, and music and dance performed by the students.
Mayor Bevilacqua and Members of Council are inviting local schools, residents and businesses to participate in this year’s drive by dropping off new, unwrapped toys for children aged newborn to 18 years of age at Vaughan community centres, libraries, fire stations and the City’s Joint Operations Centre located at 2800 Rutherford Rd. until Dec. 12. Toys also can be dropped off at Vaughan City Hall until Dec. 17.
QUOTE
“For five years this amazing community has responded with open arms to this new tradition we have created in Vaughan. The generous and compassionate nature of our residents is inspiring, and it means a lot to the families who need assistance during the holiday season. I would like to thank the students and teachers from St. Agnes of Assisi and Guardian Angels Catholic Elementary Schools for their commitment to the toy drive, and their enthusiasm at yesterday’s event.”
