Styles Q. Weinberg, 61, is married with a son and a stepson. He has lived in Thornhill for 17 years and is running for Ward 4 Vaughan councillor.

He lives in the ward and enjoys motorcycles, running, swimming and reading. He is also chairperson of the annual Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital Motorcycle Ride.

Weinberg is president of ACME Motorcycle (All Canadian Motorcycle Enthusiasts). He owns and operates a small business in Vaughan, called Styles Q. Corporate Imaging, a promotional, advertising and marketing company.

He worked for Air Canada for 17 years co-ordinating food service for flights out of Toronto’s Pearson airport. Weinberg was also in the entertainment industry for 20 years. He owned and operated major nightclubs, including Newmarket’s The Spotlight Nightclub, Toronto’s Rockers Nightclub, Rexdale’s The Pink Cadillac, and Mississauga’s The Mix Nightclub.

He also ran for the Ward 4 seat in the 2010 municipal election.

He believes the key issues in Vaughan fall in line with his top three priorities:

To limit high-rise building: He is opposed to any changes in zoning that would create multiple dwelling high-rises that would require expensive infrastructure upgrades and that would compound the current traffic congestion issues.

Expedite construction of the new hospital: Weinberg believes the many delays in building the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital are unacceptable. There are outstanding issues regarding land ownership that could take years to resolve.

Traffic and Transit: Weinberg thinks it is extremely frustrating to see lanes of traffic blocked off when there is no work going on. He promises to work with regional councillors to prevent lane restrictions when there is no ongoing work. Weinberg will work with local MPPs to get cars off the road by improving GO Transit service. This task requires co-operation between the province and the City of Vaughan.

He also believes we need to look into better synchronization of traffic lights to improve traffic flow.

Weinberg helped raise more than $50,000 for the Canadian Diabetes Association. He also founded the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital ride, which has raised more than $60,000 to date. He participated in the Strides for Stroke and was master of ceremonies for the Vaughan Relay for Life. Weinberg is an active member of the Chabad community Jewish organization. He has emceed the York Region Media Group cook-off for cancer for the past two years.

“My job with Air Canada allowed me to travel the world. These experiences are invaluable in helping to shape political beliefs and to appreciate the democracy we live in.”
