Yeung Racco, 54, is a mother of four who has lived in Vaughan for more than 20 years. Her husband is former Liberal MPP Mario Racco.
Yeung Racco graduated with a bachelor of music education degree from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music.
She has lived in Thornhill since 1993.
Yeung Racco has been a local councillor in Vaughan the past 11 years.
She fell short in her bid to become Thornhill MPP in the June provincial election - initially being declared the winner by 85, only to see those results over-turned by Elections Ontario due to clerical errors.
When the tabulation error was corrected, rival candidate PC Gila Martow won by 85 votes.
Yeung Racco believes Ward 4’s most important issues include: traffic gridlock, economic prosperity, good planning, the Vaughan hospital and thriving arts and culture.
Gridlock: Yeung Racco says she recognizes the frustration caused by gridlock and is committed to building a practical transportation system.
She is supportive of transit initiatives, such as the Yonge Street subway extension and the VIVA rapidway bus lanes.
Economic Prosperity: Yeung Racco says she will continue to expand and nurture relationships with international partners. She is also an ardent proponent of fiscal responsibility, ensuring that tax dollars are spent wisely and for good value.
Good Planning: Yeung Racco says she now knows the importance of getting the right balance of commercial and residential development. She believes in careful, measured planning, based on processes that support prudent decision-making and enable community participation.
Vaughan hospital: The well-being of residents is of utmost importance and therefore she will continue to push hard to ensure this important project becomes a reality in the next term and that residents can rest easy knowing there will be a place for them to go for healthcare when needed.
Thriving Arts & Culture: Yeung Racco has a vision for a performing arts/design/cultural campus as part of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and has been working with levels of government and higher education institutions to move this vision forward.
Yeung Racco lived in Ward 4 until 2010 when the Ontario Municipal Board changed the boundaries and now lives in Ward 5.
