A citywide celebration of local arts and culture kicks off this weekend.

Vaughan Culture Days, running Saturday and Sunday, will see community organizations and local artists across the city offering free, interactive activities at various locations including city hall, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection and the Kortright Centre for Conservation.

It’s all part of a nation-wide celebration of arts and culture taking place in communities across Canada Sept. 27 and Sept. 28.

City hall, 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr., serves as a main hub for activities on Saturday with tours, dance demonstrations, a photography exhibition and Indo-Western jewelry creations.

For more information about participating locations and activities visit vaughan.ca/artsandculture.

Before that, on Thursday, Sept. 25, the city is launching the third annual Vaughan IN FOCUS community photography exhibition.

The exhibition, which runs until Nov. 21, features work by 13 Vaughan photographers.

Pieces will be on display in the On the Slate Atrium Gallery at city hall for viewing Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

And there’s even more art coming to city hall in mid-October.

Works from the fifth annual Portraits of Giving exhibition, by award-winning photographer Karen Merk, will be on display in the main atrium from Oct. 13 to Oct. 23.

This photographic tribute celebrates the spirit of giving in York Region and is accompanied by character profiles by Melony Teague.
