Rosh Hashanah (The Jewish New Year) is almost here. It begins tomorrow evening and runs to Fri. Sept. 26. The name Rosh Hashanah means “Head of the Year”.

The online world is filled with resources for this Jewish holiday. Whether you are looking for a synagogue service, a honey cake recipe or holiday-themed colouring pages, it doesn’t take long to find Rosh Hashanah offerings, including from local, Thornhill-specific sources. What follows is a small selection of Rosh Hashanah resources from the cyber-world:

* Chabadflamingo.com

Whether you are looking for a recipe for Jello Apple, a Rosh Hashanah story or a New Year e-card to send, you can find them at this site. Type in: chabadflamingo.com/holidays/jewishnewyear/ to go directly to the Rosh Hashanah content.This site has a kid zone section, a guide to Rosh Hashanah, holiday greeting cards, holiday stories and a recipe corner.

The site gives a good explanation of Rosh Hashanah:  “It is the anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve … Rosh Hashanah thus emphasizes the special relationship between G‑d and humanity: our dependence upon G‑d as our creator and sustainer, and G‑d’s dependence upon us as the ones who make His presence known and felt in His world … Rosh Hashanah is also the anniversary of man’s first sin and his repentance thereof, and serves as the first of the ‘Ten Days of Repentance, which culminate in Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.

Chabad Flamingo is a synagogue at 8001 Bathurst St.on the east side of Bathurst, just south of Hwy. 407 in Thornhill.
