Newmarket Public Library digs a growing trend.
In partnership with the York Region Food Network, the downtown facility has launched a 'seed library'. It will be maintained by the community and rely on the donation, lending and exchange of seeds that produce tomato, lettuce, bean, pea and pepper plants, among others.

“People can become members simply by bringing in seeds from their own gardens,” library CEO Todd Kyle said. “They can choose from seeds in the collection, take them home, grow them, save some of the seeds from the next generation of plants and bring them in to add to the collection and share with others.”

A seed workshop and exchange will be held at the library on Sept. 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. The event is hosted by Orillia and Toronto seed libraries member Jacob Kearey‐Moreland.

The library is at 438 Park Ave.
