Sept. 18, 2014

Yonge Street will be completely closed to traffic between Centre and John streets in Thornhill Saturday for the Thornhill Village Festival, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Centre and John streets will both be open to traffic.

Drivers are advised to use Bathurst Street or Bayview Avenue as an alternative to Yonge.

Several side streets, near Yonge, will be closed from 8 a.m to 5:30 p.m.

Yonge Street will be the centre of entertainment, at this year’s event, while the Markham side streets of Old Thornhill (e.g. Colborne and Eliza) will host craft, community and commercial booths interspersed with food vendors and music.

The official opening will be on the Vaughan Showmobile at 11:30 a.m. Admission is by voluntary donation.

The Vaughan Showmobile (a stage on wheels towed by a truck and placed on Yonge Street for the show, to be towed away after 5 p.m.) will be the site of several events, including a performance re-creating the Disney movie Frozen, plus a chance to meet and greet Elsa and Anna after the show.

The showmobile will also be the venue for an interactive musical performance with prize give-aways and dance-off contests.

Enjoy checking out the booths of crafters, community groups, local professionals, businesses and politicians.
See what is for sale, what community groups offer, what services are provided locally and meet politicians and candidates at their booths.
