York Region council authorized the signing of a memorandum of understanding with York University regarding the location of the university’s proposed satellite campus at its meeting September 11.

The memorandum designates Markham Centre, an area north of Highway 407 between Kennedy Road and Warden Avenue, as the site of the new campus.

It also commits funds of up to $25-million to support a bid to build the new campus in York Region.

The university aims for enrollment of 5,000 students at the new location within five years, with a planned increase to 20,000.
