York Regional Police is supporting the launch of Discover Policing, a province wide, collaborative initiative under the auspices of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, which aims to attract young people to a career in policing.

“Our police service wants to attract the best candidates to become police officers. Discover Policing is the police sector’s response to encouraging people from all walks of life - especially young people - to consider a law enforcement career,” said Staff-Sgt. Julie Provis, officer-in-charge of the York Regional Police Uniform Recruiting Unit.

Discover Policing will feature a number of social media portals, with which anyone interested in a law enforcement career can engage with police personnel about what police organizations are looking for in potential candidates, educational requirements, potential opportunities and more. Anyone considering a law enforcement career can connect with police personnel through three social media platforms:

Facebook: The Discover Policing Facebook page will be the primary source of information for the initiative. This page will include information about Discover Policing, provide helpful resources and links for potential candidates, links to all police agencies, and a calendar of recruitment events for police services across Ontario.

Twitter: This Twitter account, @DiscoverPolicin, will connect users to police personnel who can assist users with their queries.

LinkedIn: Users of this professional networking platform will be able to connect with police personnel and learn more about policing in Ontario.

York Regional Police will participate in the Discover Policing Exposition on Oct. 15 at the Toronto Police College. This free, one-day event, will provide an opportunity for Ontario police services to showcase the profession to potential candidates and for attendees to engage directly with police personnel. The event is 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will include exhibitor booths for police agencies, presentations by police personnel about career opportunities and special demonstrations.
