Tony Gil made history by recording the first-ever hole-in-one in Olympic golf history Tuesday.

Representing Canada at the 2014 Youth Summer Olympics in Nanjing, China, the 16-year-old Vaughan resident did it when he utilized a seven iron on the par three 164-yard third hole at the Zhongshan International Golf Club.

For Gil, the ace was also his first ever.

The moment came as an initial shock to the former Markham resident.

“Oh really?” he reportedly said after being told he struck the first hole-in-one in Olympic history on the NBC OlympicTalk website. “That’s very cool. It was actually the first hole-in-one in my career too.”

During the round, Gil shot a three-under par 69 and was three shots off the lead through the opening round.
