A top administrator from Mackenzie Health has been named as the new chief executive officer of the Central

Community Care Access Centre.

Jo-anne Marr was named CEO of the CCAC earlier this month by the board of directors. Central CCAC covers all of York Region and South Simcoe and stretches south into parts of Toronto formerly known as North York.

In the announcement of her new role, Nevzat Gurmen, chairperson of the Central CCAC board, said Marr “brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that makes her an ideal choice for this important leadership role”.

At Mackenzie Health and former York Central Hospital in Richmond Hill, Marr has held numerous positions including interim president and CEO, chief nursing executive and, most recently, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.

In the latter role, Marr has been responsible for clinical support, support services, quality, safety and risk at the hospital. In her career she has led a number of key initiatives, including emergency wait times, clinical service planning, efficiency improvements, as well as a community engagement strategy.

During her a term as interim president and CEO of Mackenzie Health “she successfully led the hospital through considerable change and transformation”, noted Gurmen.

Her experience spans public and private sectors, academic hospitals and community in a wide variety of roles. She holds a Master of Science in nursing, Master of Business Administration and is a certified health executive.

“Central CCAC plays a vital role in meeting the health needs of patients and families who live in the diverse and growing communities, and I am looking forward to leading the team on their behalf,” said Marr in a media release.

“This is an organization full of accomplished, compassionate people who are dedicated to helping patients get the care they need at home and in the community, while improving the health system for all of us. It is my privilege to work alongside them towards those goals.”
