Young people who love to sing, dance and act, have been enjoying summer programs at Thatz Showbiz.

Last week, young actors from Thatz Showbiz presented Legally Blonde: The Musical at the York Woods Library Theatre, after rehearsing for several weeks at the Gallanough Resource Centre in Thornhill.

The group’s final summer show will be staged next week, an original musical showcase called Opening Doors. Patrons can see this student choreographed production featuring many classic musical pieces Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. at York Woods Library Theatre.

“Theatre and art should be empowering and not just about auditioning for someone else’s work and waiting for your chance,” said Sarah Magni, artistic director of Thatz Showbiz on the total creative control students have in the upcoming show.

“As artists we need to make our own opportunities and create our destiny. There is no greater accomplishment than being able to create and open your own door.”

Campers have been learning about monologues, theatrical skill building, scene work, vocal training, dancing, clowning, improv, and taking in special guest workshops. Each two-week session ends with an original production to showcase all they’ve learned.
