Take an active role in municipal election; Vaughan needs volunteers

If you’re looking to earn a little extra cash this fall, the city is recruiting people to work during the municipal elections on Oct. 27.
To become an election official, you must complete an application form and an open book quiz, which can be found at vaughan.ca/elections or picked up at the clerk’s office at city hall, 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.
Applications must be received by Friday, Sept. 5.
The pay rate ranges from $150 to $250 for the day’s work.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- 18 years old or older
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Excellent customer-service and election official experience preferred
- Knowledge of other languages commonly spoken Vaughan is an asset (Italian, Russian, Chinese, Spanish, Punjabi and Farsi)
- Comfortable with and/or have experience using optical scan, automated vote counting tabulators
- For the positions of managing deputy returning officer, tabulator deputy returning officer and single poll deputy returning officer’s, individuals must have use of a vehicle on voting day
- Ability to work well both independently and as a member of a team
- Available to attend a required training session up to two weeks prior to voting day
- Applicants cannot be a candidate or the spouse, sibling, parent, child, grandparent or grandchild of a candidate running in election.
