On the morning of July 7, 2014, the intersection of Major Mackenzie Drive and Jane Street was bustling as the groundbreaking of the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital took place. Community members and media representatives, along with Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, MPP Steven Del Duca, president and CEO of Mackenzie Health Altaf Stationwala and Mackenzie Health board chair Dina Palozzi came together to mark the start of primary work on the Vaughan Health Care Precinct as it prepares the site for development of the anticipated hospital.

“This groundbreaking ceremony marks an important milestone in our efforts over the past three and a half years to improve local healthcare and bring a hospital to Vaughan,” remarked Bevilacqua. “Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital is a vital part of Vaughan’s future and our ultimate goal of taking Vaughan to a higher level and creating a world-class city.”

All construction of the required infrastructure is set to be complete by September of 2015 in preparation of the construction of the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital, which is projected to open its doors in 2019.
