For Andrew Wiggins, the future starts now.
Not just in terms of launching his professional career as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, who made the 19-year-old Thornhill resident and former Vaughan Secondary School student as the first overall pick in this year’s recent National Basketball Association draft.
But also in procuring a shoe contract as Adidas announced the six-foot, eight-inch guard-forward signed a multiyear deal with them.
“The future starts now,” Adidas said on their Google Plus page
“Welcome to the #adidasHoops family, Andrew Wiggins. #teamadidas.”
“Been waiting for this day. Happy to be joining the @adidashoops fam!” Wiggins confirmed on his Twitter account of his new association with Adidas.
Sources said the contract is a multiyear deal that comes with a guarantee of at least $2 million U.S. annually.
Wiggins is quite familiar with the company having worn their items this past year as a member of the University of Kansas Jayhawks’ basketball team during his only season.
The Lawrence, Kansas-based school’s athletic department is sponsored by Adidas.
During his freshman year at the University of Kansas, Wiggins averaged 17.1 points a game, 5.9 rebounds per game and made 34.1 per cent of his three-point attempts.
