To celebrate 100 years of beautiful gardens, the Thornhill Garden & Horticultural Society held a Centennial Luncheon in May at the Thornhill Golf & Country Club.

Members of the society joined with invited politicians and dignitaries from Vaughan and Markham.

Award-winning horticulturist Denis Flanagan was the keynote speaker on 100 Years of Gardening.

Since 1914, the garden and horticultural society has promoted horticultural initiatives in Thornhill.

The organization has held monthly meetings, organized garden tours and maintained garden spaces in Thornhill.

This year members have collaborated with Seeds for Change to create healthier neighborhoods through community gardens.

The next meeting is June 18 starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Thornhill Community Centre, 7755 Bayview Ave. at John Street. Charlie Dobbin of Garden Solutions will speak about what is new in annuals and vegetables. A flower show will also be held.

New members are always welcome. Annual membership costs $20 (single) or $25 (family).
