Woodbridge high school has returned to normal operations after a hold-and-secure order prompted by a tip involving social media, a rival school and a gun.
Police made the order around 9 a.m. Friday after a tip that a student from a rival school had threatened to bring a gun to Saint Jean de Brebeuf Catholic High School in Woodbridge, according to the York Catholic School Board.
An unrelated Toronto Catholic high school bears the same name, but was not involved in this incident.
By around 2 p.m., the hold and secure was lifted.
The Woodbridge school, which was holding an outdoor carnival, was forced to shut down festivities while police investigated the situation.
A hold and secure differs from a lockdown in that students continue to participate in regular classes, but all doors are locked. Schools usually take the measure when there’s a perceived threat in the neighbourhood. Full lockdowns are reserved for on-site threats.
School board officials said the tip came in early in the morning, and that they began working to settle the situation before 7 a.m.
The board said all students are safe.
Police said the measures were strictly precautionary and no threat was found.
