Two Thornhill musicians are among 30 young talents selected to compete in this year’s Stepping Stone competition, presented by the Canadian Music Competition.
It features musical talents of those between the ages of 16 to 31 and the grand prize is $10,000, along with other financial prizes.
Julia Mirzoev, 17, is a student at Vaughan Secondary School in Thornhill who started playing violin at the age of 2. She has frequently performed as a soloist in various recitals and concerts and has earned many awards, the most recent being in January when she won first place at the TSYO Concerto Competition in Italy.
Also competing is 19 year-old Daniel Temnik, a student at the Glenn Gould School of Music.
Mr. Temnik is also a violinist who has appeared as a soloist and performed as a chamber musician of orchestras within Canada and the United States.
He has also performed with the North York Symphony Orchestra and the Kindred Spirits Orchestra of Markham. He has been awarded for his participation in the Canadian Music Competition, the Golden Strings of America Competition and more.
From May 21 to 29, the young musicians will compete in Toronto in elimination competitions, with winners performing May 29 at the Mazzoleni Concert Hall at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto.
