Residents will have to wait at least another week before there's a public update on the town's battle with Glenway's developer.

Council debated Newmarket's next steps in the Glenway fight - which could potentially include entering into negotiations to reach a settlement with the developer or simply proceeding with the second phase of the OMB hearing - during an in-camera meeting at town hall this afternoon.

Nothing is being released to residents at this point, but more details could be made public at next week's council meeting, Councillor Chris Emanuel said.

Ontario Municipal Board chairperson Susan Schiller ruled against the town and Glenway Preservation Association in the first phase of the hearing on the proposal recently. The decision will ultimately permit development on the 146-acre site, located south of Davis Drive West, between Yonge and Bathurst streets.

The second phase could begin April 22. It will determine the amount of development that can take place on the former golf course and country club property.

Marianneville Developments wants to construct 730 homes on the property. If approved as planned, the project would accommodate about 1,900 people.
