York Region Public Health is not worried the region’s lone measles case will result in further measles exposure in the region.
Unlike reported cases in Hamilton, the York Region measles carrier did not visit a large public facility while sick, said York Region Public Health infectious diseases control manager Omar Ozaldin.
Hamilton public health officials put a call out to residents who visited the same places as the infected person, while the person was contagious, including a trampoline park, post office and several restaurants and pubs.
Those who had been to the locations were urged to contact their local public health unit.
In York Region’s case, the infected person did not venture out into large public areas while contagious.
York Region’s case is directly related to recent travel abroad.
York Region Public Health conducted an investigation and found there were no followup cases of measles, Mr. Ozaldin said.
York Region Public Health is not worried the virus exposure turning into a local outbreak, he added.
