Ground has officially broken on construction of a brand new Mercedes-Benz Canada flagship retail store in Thornhill, Ont.

Demolition of the two former buildings that occupied the property was completed in November 2013, setting the stage for the new 130,000-square-foot facility.

The new Mercedes-Benz Thornhill store will feature ample space spreading across two floors, incorporating a new and pre-owned vehicle showroom totaling 36,000 square feet.

An additional 43,000 square feet will be reserved for the service area, which will include 32 state-of-the-art work bays, six detailing bays and a six-vehicle drive through.

“It goes without saying that this new facility will further augment Mercedes-Benz Canada’s prominence in the Greater Toronto Area as well as provide an outstanding new platform for all of us to deliver the absolute best automotive experience possible for our valued customers,” said Mercedes-Benz Canada president and CEO Tim Reuss.

The new store incorporates the company’s proprietary Auto Haus design concept, which incorporates the widespread use of glass to maintain transparency and create a bright and open concept atmosphere.

The design of the building will also apply measures to maximize energy efficiencies and reduce the heat island effect and CFC’s in its HVAC equipment.
