World Day of Prayer
Streams in the Desert is the theme of the World Day of Prayer service which will be held at Woodbridge United Church this Friday, March 7 at 7 p.m..

Written by the women of Egypt, this service combines Bible stories of ancient Egypt and knowledge of life there today. The guest speaker for the event, who emigrated from Egypt in 2005, has first-hand knowledge of life in a country where 12 per cent of the population is Christian.

Earth Hour Vaughan
The seventh annual Earth Hour Vaughan celebration will be held on Saturday, March 29, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Vaughan City Hall, located at 2141 Major Mackenzie Drive.

This fun-filled evening will be a night of collective action for energy conservation and will feature a professional energy conservation exhibit, lantern-making, a secondary school environmental Jeopardy game, an outdoor lantern walk, cycling night ride, entertainment acts, refreshments, prizes and much more.

Remember to bring a lantern or flashlight, a reusable mug and to dress warmly. To register for the night cycling ride, contact vaughanbug@gmail.com.

Bus Trip to Casino Niagara
The Woodbridge Legion is once again hosting a trip to Niagara Falls, but this time we are going to the old casino, Casino Niagara. The trip will take place on Wednesday, March 12. The bus departs from the Legion at 9 a.m.. The Woodbridge Legion is located at 60 Legion Court Road in Woodbridge. The cost for the trip is $5. For more information call 905-851-0032.

 

Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous
Are you having trouble controlling the way you eat? You are not alone. Today, there is a solution.
Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous holds weekly meetings every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Woodbridge Pool and Memorial Arena, located at 5020 Highway 7 at the north west corner of Highway 7 and Islington Avenue.

There are no dues, no fees and no weigh-ins.

French Toastmasters
French Toastmasters club in Richmond Hill for fluent French speaking people. Meetings are on first and third Thursdays of the month, from 7:30 to 9 p.m..

Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival
Celebrate the sweetness of springtime at the Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival which began Saturday, March 1 and runs until April 6.

The festival takes place at two locations in York Region – the Kortright Centre for Conservation in Vaughan and Bruce’s Mill Conservation Area in Stouffville, just east of Markham. Both locations will be open daily during March Break with activities for families looking for fun outdoor activities.

The festival attracts thousands of visitors annually to celebrate the flowing of sap and the making of pure maple syrup – a truly Canadian tradition.

Festival-goers will discover the magic of traditional and modern maple syrup production while enjoying live entertainment, maple syrup walks, samples, children’s activities, horse drawn wagon rides, a visit to the Sugarbush Shop and of course enjoy delicious pancakes with pure maple syrup. Throughout the day both locations will have family-friendly activities and entertainers including face painting, balloon artists, and magic shows.

Kortright Centre for Conservation will host a special Maple Syrup by Lamplight evening on Saturday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. This special evening begins with a guided twilight tour of Kortright’s Maple sugar bush. Taste real maple syrup, visit the sugar shack and learn about old fashioned and modern methods of maple syrup production. Also enjoy a warm campfire and a fire-side treat. Advance tickets are required. The costs is $12 for adults, $10 for members, $6 for children and senior and child/senior members pay $5. Family passes are also available for $30. Kortright Centre for Conservation is open daily, including March Break. Bruce’s Mill is open Wednesday to Sunday and March Break (daily). The Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival will run until April 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The cost is $10 for adults and $6.50 for kids, students and seniors.  Children four and under are admitted free with their family and Conservation Parks Members are free.  Parking is $4 per vehicle at Kortright Conservation Centre and free at Bruce’s Mill.

The Kortright Centre for Conservation is located at  9550 Pine Valley Dr. in Vaughan.

Bruce’s Mill Conservation Area, is located at 3291 Stouffville Rd. in Stouffville.
