Vaughan wants your help on parking solution

The city has been grappling with how to deal with the increasing demand for overnight parking, especially in newer subdivisions where streets are narrower and homes often have single car garages and smaller driveways.

And with the pending legalization of basement apartments, in certain areas, the situation will likely worsen.

So now the city is asking you to weigh in.

Public meetings are being held in locations across Vaughan this month to gather input for solutions.

Right now, the city is considering a two-pronged approach.

The first part involves creating a permit system in which residents would apply, through a petition, to have their street designated for street, paid permit parking.

Once the petition has been submitted to the city, engineering studies would be carried out to ensure street parking can be safely accommodated.

The number of parking spaces available for residents will be determined during the study.

The second part of the city’s proposed solution involves allowing homeowners to widen their driveways onto the front yard to create additional parking spaces.
