You can mark Earth Hour Saturday by turning down your lights, PowerStream suggests.

At 8:30 p.m., the global climate change awareness initiative reaches our time zone.

“Earth Hour is just one of many ways our customers to show their support for protecting the environment and at the same time learn about the importance of conservation,” said PowerStream board chairperson and Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua.

“It’s a global event where family and friends around the world can come together to collectively express their commitment to fight climate change.”

Last year, power consumption dropped 5 per cent throughout the PowerStream service area, which includes southern York Region, Barrie, Collingwood and Penetanguishene.
