They got an early jump on the season, but the artists taking part in the Going Green art exhibit now on at the King Township Museum offers visitors the perfect opportunity to get into that mindset.
Photographers Tom Wray and Robert Brown, Christine Paige, who works in ceramics, woodcarver George Burt and painters Mary Morganelli, Lisa Rosatti and Brigitte Granton all have work in the show. They are members of Art Society King.
The artworks in Going Green are based on a green theme and include materials that are reusable, ecologically friendly and, of course, be green in colour.
The exhibit continues the society’s theme of seasons and colours, as the exhibit Winter Blue just wrapped up.
Ms Granton, 52, has two paintings in the exhibit and describes the works as landscapes of northern lakes and shorelines.
She said she has seriously taken up art in the past seven years.
“It was more of a hobby before, but it was always part of my life from childhood onwards,” she said. “My father was a painter, as well. In the last seven years, I’ve done a lot of workshops and courses and exhibited in a number of shows throughout York Region.”
The King City resident said she is eager to see the end of the long, cold snowy winter we’ve suffered through.
“I interpreted the exhibit as more about environmental images, but also going green is thinking about spring again and so I have a lot of spring flowers there, too.”
She paused before considering the lengthy winter and mid-March blast of snow.
“We can only hope (for spring),” she laughed.
GOING GREEN art exhibit runs until April 24 at the King Township Museum, 2920 King Rd.
SEE THE SHOW The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
