As Vaughan’s population continues to grow, cresting well above the 300,000 mark, so, too, has the number of businesses registered with the city and those working in Vaughan.
At Monday’s priority and key initiatives committee meeting, the city’s economic development department reported that the city busted through the 10,000 mark for number of registered businesses, indicating Vaughan now has 10,230 businesses which call it home. Employment in the city also increased from 2012 to 2013 by 5.5 per cent, jumping to 186,019 jobs, from 176,296.
The committee update provided a preliminary report on last fall’s mission to Israel undertaken by city officials and others from the local business and academic community. It said the mission resulted in the generation of more than $300 million in economic opportunities.
“The City of Vaughan is positioning itself for continued future economic success, both at home and on a global scale," said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. "Reaching the 10,000-businesses milestone reflects the fact this is a place (in which) people want to do business. The growth will result in an improved quality of life and build a better future for the entire community.”
