Kleinburg will be getting a new Catholic elementary school.

Liz Sandals, minister of education, joined Vaughan MPP Steven Del Duca at the Kline House in Kleinburg on Feb. 28 to announce the Province of Ontario has approved building of a new Catholic elementary school in the community.

The new school will provide students with modern and improved places to learn while creating local construction jobs, said Sandals.

The Province will provide $11.8 million for the brand new facility, which will be located in rapidly growing west Kleinburg area near Huntington Road and Major Mackenzie Drive.

Building new schools and modernizing learning spaces is part of the government’s economic plan that is creating jobs and much-needed infrastructure, Del Duca explained.

“I am proud that our government is committed to investing in Ontario’s youth and infrastructure,” stated Del Duca. “This new funding will allow students to go to school closer to home, and create more jobs right here in Vaughan. Our government is working on what matters most to Ontarians - quality education and job creation.”

The school is slated to open in 2016 and ministry staff is working closely with the Catholic board to ensure the project is completed as soon as possible due to the growing need in the area.

“By continuing our support for new school buildings and renovations across Ontario, we are providing our children with better places to learn,” said Sandals. “This contributes to student success in school and beyond and creates construction jobs in local communities.”

Since 2003, Ontario has invested $12 billion in school infrastructure, including nearly 650 new schools and over 620 additions and renovations.
