The latest of four fires in Vaughan within a week gutted a Woodbridge home Sunday and all its furnishings, estimated to have a value of $500,000.

A father, mother and son living in the home all escaped without injury.

Seven trucks raced to two-alarm blaze at 48 Coronation St., in the Hwy. 27 and Langstaff Road area, when the fire broke out before 4 p.m.

However, before crews could get to work, intense flames had engaged both floors and the roof, Vaughan fire Chief Larry Bentley said.

"We made it there in good time, but the fire grew so quickly," he said. "It was a total loss."

This month, the department has seen a number of significant fires in and around the city, including four in the past week alone.

"We usually have about 100 structure fires a year but, at this rate, there would be 200 per year," he added.

House fires often become more prevalent in the winter as people up their usage of electricity and other means to heat their homes, he said.

An investigation to discover how the fire started is ongoing.

Meanwhile, Vaughan firefighters Tuesday afternoon are fighting on ongoing structure fire in Vaughan, the sixth in seven days.

According to Vaughan's fire chief, the two-alarm blaze broke out on Columbus Avenue, near Weston and Langstaff roads.
