For the first time, York Region, Ontario, residents will be able to hear local weather and traffic and receive timely updates on news stories and current affairs that affect them most directly in their neighbourhood. Broadcasting in English throughout the day, 105.9 The Region will provide evening programming that reaches out to new Canadians who speak Mandarin, Cantonese, Tamil/Tanglish, Urdu and Arabic. Within these programs, the focus will be on local news and information making all content specific to York Region.
Created by residents of York Region, 105.9 The Region is brought to life by a team of dedicated and experienced broadcast professionals, the majority of whom live in the region. The station provides a combination of popular adult contemporary music, timely and necessary information, local news and community programming that celebrates the communities and gives a voice to the 1.5 million listeners that this station can reach. York Region's brand new radio station will feature great music and focus on local community matters. Launching on Wednesday, February 5, 105.9 The Region will hold four "Getting to Know You... Getting to Know York Region" live remote broadcasts featuring live interviews with guests from throughout York Region and prizes to introduce themselves to the community.
“From local news, sports and weather to details on community events and updates about the Markham, Vaughan and Richmond Hill municipal governments, 105.9 The Region will have the information people want to hear about their local community,” states Pip Bola, President 105.9 The Region. “The official launch on Wednesday, February 5 will feature four live remotes in York Region where talented on air hosts will interview guests ranging from mayors and CEOs of charities operating in York Region to local business owners.”
The live remotes will take place throughout the day at the Flato Markham Theatre (Markham), Hillcrest Mall (Richmond Hill), Vaughan City Hall (Vaughan) and Fionn MacCool’s (Vaughan).
Throughout the day, 105.9 The Region on-air hosts will be promoting the "105.9 The Region Launch Grand Prize". Listeners can e-mail the station with their favourite place to eat, shop or hang out in York Region for a chance to win a grand prize package (a $400 value) that includes:
· 2 tickets to see Jane Monheit at the Flato Markham Theatre on Friday February 14th, 2014
· A bouquet of flowers from Tim Clarks Flowers, Main Street Markham
· A box of chocolate truffles from Old Firehall Confectionery, Unionville

Winners will be announced on Thursday, February 6 on-air and on Facebook.
