Real estate development tycoon Rudy Bratty will be feted at the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce annual business awards in April.

Mr. Bratty, chairperson and CEO of The Remington Group, will be honoured as philanthropic businessperson of the year during the April 3 event, being held at the Paramount Conference & Event Venue, 222 Rowntree Dairy Rd.

Chamber of commerce representatives made the announcement during the Mayor’s Luncheon Wednesday afternoon, during a power outage that cut short Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua’s keynote address.

Mr. Bratty is widely recognized for his generosity, having made donations over the years to many institutions, charitable foundations and organizations including the University of Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Villa Charities, among many others.

Closer to home, Mr. Bratty recently helped restore and preserve the Old Carrville Post Office, now located at 1076 Rutherford Rd., just east of the Rexall Plaza and Dufferin Street.

Mr. Bratty also garnered attention last year for his role as financial backer of the controversial NHL-size arena proposed in Markham, a project he eventually pulled out of.
