The Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service lost a member of its team last week
Training officer Peter Leonard passed away suddenly on Feb. 14, in his sleep at his home in Cookstown. He would have turned 49 on March 8.
Leonard joined the Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service as a firefighter in 1989 and was promoted to the rank of training officer in 2002. He was a very valued member of the Vaughan Fire and Rescue family.
“It was a big loss for us,” said Vaughan Fire Chief Larry Bentley. “He was a smart guy, compassionate and hardworking. He loved his family very much and he loved the fire service.”
Over the past 12 years, Leonard trained over 140 recruits for the Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service.
Leonard is survived by his wife, son and daughter.
