A defective switch at a transformer on Centre Street left about 500 PowerStream customers without electricity for about an hour, including the venue where Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and just as many guests were enjoying the longtime politician's annual luncheon.

Mr. Bevilacqua, who is also chairperson of PowerStream's board of directors, had to cut his speech short just under an hour ago at the Hazleton, in the Jane Street and Hwy. 7 area of Vaughan. Now that the power has been restored, the luncheon continues.

The streets affected by the outage included Hwy. 7, Keele Street, Jane Street, Creditstone Road and Bowes Road.
