York Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial Police were expecting to have to close a section of Hwy. 400 Tuesday afternoon when reports came in that downed cables were on fire on sections of the highway.

However, police limited closures to the westbound ramp from Hwy. 7 on to Hwy. 400, for the repair.

York Regional Police advises motorists to plan ahead and find another route home while PowerStream crews finish their repairs.

OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford estimated it would be closed for up to seven hours.

An eyewitness reported a number of lights east of Keele Street, right up to Keele, are out, adding that traffic in the area is extremely heavy and clogging up all lanes of Hwy. 7.

Police requested over Twitter that motorists stop clogging up 911 with calls about the blacked out traffic lights.
