The City of Mississauga has received the Communities in Bloom Urban Forestry award for its Natural Heritage and Urban Forest Strategy and Urban Forest Management Plan.

“Receiving the Communities in Bloom Award for Urban Forestry provides meaningful recognition for the City. This award highlights the importance we put on protecting our natural heritage and urban forest,” said Laura Piette, director of Parks and Forestry. “For the next 20 years, these strategies will guide the management of Mississauga’s Natural Heritage System and Urban Forest. We want to ensure they are protected, enhanced, restored and expanded for future generations.”

Parks Planning led the strategy with contributions from City staff in various divisions and local partners including the Region of Peel, Credit Valley Conservation, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and Conservation Halton. North-South Environmental assisted with the final strategy.

The award was presented by Communities in Bloom, a Canadian non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community involvement. This national recognition program focuses on enhancing green spaces in communities.
