The city hopes to spark a conversation about the role arts and culture can play in helping create a vibrant downtown core.

And, to that end, it will host Culture Talks, a summit featuring three leading experts who will discuss the role of culture and public art in economic development and city-building, according to the city’s website.

The talk will be followed by a conversation about opportunities that exist in the emerging downtown core known as the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, in the Jane Street and hwys. 7 and 400 area of Vaughan.

The summit takes place Jan. 21 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at city hall, 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.

The aim is to explore the potential development of creative industries, cultural hubs, arts and programming in the downtown core.

It will also help the city create a public art program to guide development and/or acquisition of public art and cultural products to “enhance Vaughan’s image and identity across its dynamic and diverse communities".
