You can tune in online or watch in person as Richmond Hill’s new council takes office Monday night.
The inaugural meeting for the town’s mayor, two regional councillors and six local councillors is set for Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. and will be livestreamed.
The meeting, to be held at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, 10268 Yonge St., will begin with a procession led by pipers Paul G. McKenzie and Jeff Carp of the Richmond Hill Centennial Pipe Band and members of the Richmond Hill Fire & Emergency Services honour guard.
The ceremony will include a call to order by town clerk Donna McLarty; the singing and signing of the national anthem by members of the Alexander Mackenzie Secondary School Choir; an invocation by Rabbi Mendel Bernstein of the Chabad Romano Centre; declarations of office followed by presentation of the chain of office to the mayor, Dave Barrow.
Barrow, who was re-elected Oct. 27 for his third term as mayor, will deliver an inaugural address focusing on what council hopes to accomplish over the coming four-year term.
Each member of council will then have an opportunity to speak, thank supporters and outline their own priorities.
The event is open to the public and theatre doors open at 7 p.m.
