A stocking full of goodies can add a little holiday cheer to an isolated senior.

Such a simple gesture has the power to transform a person’s holiday season.

This is why Qualicare has launched its Stockings for Seniors program.

Qualicare is a private home-care company, based in Thornhill, that specializes in helping people who are challenged by aging and illness, as well as their families.

Qualicare is reaching out to local residents and business to help make its first annual Stockings for Seniors program successful.

From Nov. 1 to Dec. 15, Qualicare will accept donations of new, unwrapped small gifts at its office at 7620 Yonge St., suite 300 in the Yonge and John Sts. area of Thornhill.

The following is a suggested list of items:

Christmas stockings, Chanukah basket, candles or menorahs, candy canes, chocolates, cookies and candies.

Toiletries are welcome: soap, lotions, perfume, tissues, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shaving cream, razors, combs, emery boards, nail polish, Chapstick. Travel-sized shampoo, body wash and conditioner.

Single serving tea, hot chocolate and coffee.

Playing cards, small puzzles and dominos, crosswords, word search and Sudoku books.

Hats, gloves and scarves.

Stationery items (pens, pencils, markers, paper and envelopes, postage stamps), plus magazines, books and calendars.

Coffee mugs, holiday ornaments, gift cards or other small items.

On Dec. 16, Qualicare staff and volunteers will get together for a stocking stuffer party complete with hot cocoa, cider and carols, while they put together stockings to be distributed to isolated seniors in Vaughan, Richmond Hill and Markham.
