Vaughan OP partially approved

NRU
Nov. 5, 2014

In an October 17 decision, board member Jason Chee-Hing approved portions of the City of Vaughan official plan and two settlements. One settlement, concerning city-wide gas station policies, was between the city and Canada Fuels Association, Imperial Oil Limited and Suncor Energy Products Partnership. The second, concerning permissions for a 10-storey apartment building at Regional Road 7 and Kipling Avenue, was between the city and Celebration Estates Inc. The board also set a prehearing conference for February 24 and 25, 2015.

The board was informed that since the March 26 prehearing conference, 26 appeals to the Vaughan official plan had been withdrawn.

The board granted a motion from city solicitors Dawne Jubb (Dawne Jubb Barrister) and Bruce Engell (WeirFoulds LLP) to approve city-wide policies regarding parks and open spaces, the Kipling Avenue Corridor Secondary Plan, gas stations, modifications to certain maps and schedules and section 37 policies. Supporting the city’s motion were city planners Steven Dixon and Jamie Bronsema, as well as Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing planner Caroline Samuel.

The board also granted a motion from Canada Fuels Association, Imperial Oil Limited and Suncor Energy Products Partnership to approve modified gas station policies, with evidence provided by planner Michael Goldberg (Goldberg Group). The city supported this motion.

The board also granted a motion by Celebration Estates Inc. to redesignate its lands from low-rise to a mid-rise residential, with heights up-to-10 storeys, supported by planner Rosemarie Humphries (Humphries Planning Group Inc.). The city also supported this motion.
